For the pastry
1 sheet puff pastry (or homemade dough, rectangular)
1 egg (for egg wash)
For the apple filling
4 medium apples, grated
4–5 tbsp sugar (white or brown)
1.5 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
2–3 tbsp melted butter
1 tbsp lemon juice
Optional:
2–3 tbsp ground walnuts OR breadcrumbs to absorb moisture
